Reception

 

Children in Reception learn through exciting and carefully planned play based activities. Their progression and development across the seven areas of the Early Years curriculum are supported our skilled Reception team.

 

The practitioners base their planning around the learning objectives within the 'Development Matters in the Early Years' document and children are provided with exciting and stimulating learning opportunities which are designed to respond to their individual learning needs and interests.

 

During the Reception year we  follow Letters and Sounds Phase 1 to Phase 4 and learn all letter sounds  and digraphs (“two letters, one sound”) qu, ch, sh, th, ng, ai, ee, oa, oo, ar, or, ur, ow, oi, er, We also learn trigraphs (“three letters, one sound) igh ear, air, ure. We then use this phonic knowledge for ‘ blending’ (c-a-t…cat) and ‘segmenting’ (cat…c-a-t) with these sounds to read and write words.

 

We also learn ‘tricky words’ (which we can’t blend)  the, to, no, go, I, th, she, we, be, me, was, you, they, all, all, are, my, her, said, have, like, so, do, some, come, were, there, little, one, when, out, what.
